COMM 334: Feature Article Writing/Fall 2010  

Catalog description: Nonfiction writing for newspapers and magazines; sources, methods and markets.

Prerequisites: English 101 or equivalent with a grade of C or better; COMM 101 or equivalent.

Units: 3

Course objective: Comm 334 is for students who have mastered basic news writing, reporting and interviewing skills. It combines these skills with storytelling techniques to produce non-news stories rich in detail and information. Comm 334 will show students how professional feature writers think, identifying and developing feature ideas behind the news. The course will give students opportunities to produce a variety of feature articles that can be submitted to magazines, newspapers, newsletters and Web publications – and it will show them the steps for getting their work published.
