So you want to be a freelance writer?

So you are a great writer but where should you find work?

If you are thinking this way about freelance writing perhaps this website can help. is a website that gives freelancers something to write about.

This is how it works:  First you must apply to be a writer.  All you will need to apply is your resume and some writing samples of yours.  Once you get approved you may search through categories and choose titles that you would like to write about.  You will have seven days to submit your story once you choose the title.  After it is reviewed by the copy editor it will then be published and you will then get paid.  Demand Studies can help you create a portfolio while getting paid and it’s a great way to receive feed back and improve your skills.  The website also features a writer forum, training materials, and samples to keep you on the right track.

Laura Spencer, a Demand Studio writer, posted a great review of the website which thoroughly talks about the pros and cons with her experience.  She mentions in her review that Demand Studios is good for writers who are getting started.  So what are you waiting for? Apply today.

Your post sounds like an ad for DemandStudios! 😉 I’m curious as to where your stories get published to after you submit them. Sounds like a great tool for freelance beginners! Thanks Danny!

Your article is great to encourage students to get into freelance writing. There is always that fear of trying something new and your article is great to break through the stigmas of freelance writing. seems like it would be a great place to start applying. Thanks for the resource.

This is awesome! It’s great for new freelance writers such as myself. I was interested in finding a website like this that would take a chance with new writers. Since it is difficult to get worked published it’s a great stepping stone to build a portfolio. I will definitely apply over winter break! Thanks!

I think this is great because often we think that everything is “too hard” and do not take the time out to give things a try. We have written so much in this class that you never know where these great stories can be published and it does not hurt to give it a try. There are also a lot of non-profit organizations that take on writers to publish and may not pay but can offer a lot for a portfolio.

I really liked the assignment we did on freelance writing in class. I would love to be a freelance writer and make a little money on the side. Omedina, I did not know this about non-profit organizations!! I used to be a part of one, so even if I didn’t get paid I would love to lend my writing skills (if you can call them that) and perhaps write for one even if that meant not getting paid.

Cool website. Thanks for the heads up. Freelancing is really cool since you can do it while in school. I’ll definitely check this out.
